You may already know that shipping containers are recycled and repurposed for a wide variety of commercial and residential needs today. Since they are readily available and made of high-grade, durable steel, containers are now commonly used for building needs. One of these types of buildings are schools and classrooms! Shipping containers can be used to build single classrooms, small schools, or large educational facilities. The team at ArchModal has experience with all of these!
When it comes to building a single classroom or an entire school, there are lots of reasons to choose a Container Built Modular Classroom over traditional construction. Take a look at just some of the benefits to understand why so many educational facilities are choosing shipping containers for their classrooms.
Develop a program by determining your total budget, site location, schedule for delivery, classroom size, and any other special needs.
Once you have a Program, reach out to our team and we will assist in selecting the right solution for your needs and provide a quote for your project.
Once you’ve selected the ArchModal solution to meet your needs, it’s time to purchase and schedule delivery of your classrooms.
You will want to prepare your classroom site. Make sure the ground is level, utilities are installed, and there are no obstructions in the way of delivery.
When your shipping container classroom is ready, ArchModal will deliver and assemble your Container Built Modular Classrooms.
After assembly, you will need to add any final touches such as desks, whiteboards, and more – so that students and teachers are ready to use the classroom!
Other costs incurred include “soft costs” and “site costs”.
Soft costs vary by project. If in California, you should budget $20 - $100k based on the characteristics and location of your land. The work that typically needs to be done in order to receive a building permit for the project can include:
Local fees associated with obtaining a building permit will vary greatly depending on jurisdiction and are determined during the feasibility process. Steelblox helps you with this process and can do this for you or with you.
Site Costs, which can be 30% to 100% percent of the modular construction costs, are largely dependent on your soils report, slope of your property and access to the site. These costs typically include:
Site work costs vary based on a variety of factors, including the condition of your land, topography and soil, total number of containers and complexity of the projects.
Utilities (electric, water, sewer/septic & sometimes solar) are connected the same as they would be in a stick built structure. There are lots of variables to choose from, and are often dictated by your intended use of the structure, but there is a key advantage when building modular. MEP Engineering is required on all our structures, which means we have our engineers calculate the most efficient energy systems on every project, and back that up with a detailed report, which becomes part of your "construction documents". This ensures we are meeting the minimum energy conservation requirements, and that we positive our units meet "Net Zero" when desired.
We discuss all of this with you during the Schematic Design phase of your project.
